She moved with her family to Long Beach, California in 1890, and studied composition with Heinrich Urban, Hugo Kaun and Rubin Goldmark, and piano with Leopold Godowsky in Berlin.
Teacher, pianist and composer, Los Angeles, 1906-1910. Teacher at Pomona College, 1910-1913, in Los Angeles high schools, 1918-1941. On invitation of Beethoven Society of New York, gave concert of her compositions, New York, February 9, 1918.
Selected as California’s first representative woman composer and sent to MacDowell Colony, Peterboro, New Hampshire (U.S.), June-September 1921, and in 1923, 1933, 1942, 1944 Composer of piano, vocal, orchestral and chamber music compositions.
Composer of music for outdoor dramas, “Nevertheless—Old Glory,” “The Desert Calls,” “Tahquitz.” Founder of Woodland Theater at Fawnskin, Big Bear Lake, 1924, general manager of successful seasons, 1926-1929.
