Sentenced to 4 years in prison for violating Georgia statute forbidding white persons to live among Indians without obtaining license, 1831, appealed case to Supreme Court of the United States Court, 1832 (court held Georgia act unconstl.), not released until January 1833. Established Park Hill Mission for Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma.
Established 1st printing press in Indian Territory. Printed Cherokee almanac, 1838-1861.
Organized Cherokee Bible Society, 1841.
