Goldman, Hetty was born on December 19, 1881 in New York City. Daughter of Julius and Sarah (Adler) Goldman.

She was the first woman faculty member at the Institute for Advanced Study and one of the first female archaeologists to undertake excavations in Greece and the Middle East. In 1903 she received her Bachelor of Arts from Bryn Mawr College and her Doctor of Philosophy from Radcliffe College in 1915. She joined the Institute for Advanced Study in 1936 and retired in 1947.
She died May 4, 1972 in Princeton, New Jersey.
