Practiced law at New York, 1862-1869. United States consul-general at Rome, Italy, 1869-1872. Designer and maker of stained glass windows and other decorations for many years.
Head of Maitland, Armstrong & Company, New New York Executed memorial figure windows in Ascension, Saint Michael’s, Holy Communion, Holy Trinity and other churches, New New York
In Mistress O. H. P. Belmont’s memorial chapel, Woodlawn Cemetery, and in her armory. 15 memorial windows in All Souls’ Church, Biltmore, North Carolina.
Also many hundred works throughout the country. Director American Art Department, Paris Exposition, 1878.
