Sandzen, Sven Birger was born on February 5, 1871 in Blidsberg, Sweden. Son of Review John Peter and Clara Elizabeth (Sylven) Sandzen.

Education

Graduated from College of Skara, Sweden, 1890. Studied University of Lund. Studied painting at Art School of Artists’ League, Stockholm, under A. Zorn and R. Bergh, and at school of Aman-Jean, Paris.

Also at principal art museums of the world.

Received honorary degrees of Doctor of Letters, Doctor of Laws, Doctor of Fine Arts. Came to American, 1894.

Career

Elizabeth. Professor aesthetics and painting, Bethany College, Kansas, 1894-1945, emeritus, since 1945. Has exhibited in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, Paris, Chicago, Saint Louis. Has collection of 500 paintings and drawings of the West.

Represented in British Museum, Bibliotheque Nationale December Knight Royal Order of North Star (Sweden).
