He was one of the top college basketball recruits in 2013. He was a McDonald"s All-American. Selden went to Kansas, where he played with fellow McDonald"s All-Americans Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid.
He played in 35 games during his freshman year.
In Selden"s debut against UL Monroe at Allen Field House, he scored eight points. Selden scored his career high at Allen Fieldhouse January, 30th, 2016 with 33 points against Kentucky, winning 90-84 in overtime.
In 2016, Selden was named to the 35-man midseason watchlist for the Naismith Trophy on February 11. Selden competed on behalf of the United States in the 2015 World University Games.
He averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in leading Team United States of America to an 8-0 record and 84-77 victory over Germany in the gold medal game.
