Kane grew up in Newry, County Down, and was a pupil at Sacred Heart Grammar School and the Annmarie Morgan School of Dance.

Kane also stars in the British Broadcasting Corporation drama "Thirteen" - a drama about a young girl who has been missing for thirteen years. She plays Doctor of Science Lisa Merchant, the lead investigator who is "charged with learning what happened during incarceration in a cellar" From the age of 15, she was part of the National Youth, most notably starring in their production of 20 Cigarettes. She left Ireland for London at eighteen and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Kane was cast in The Fading Light by the director Ivan Kavanagh after he spotted her in a short film, July, that was posted on YouTube.
She was chosen partly for her successful experience with improvisation in the short film. 2013 saw her play Rose Stagg in the British Broadcasting Corporation"s television series The Fall opposite Gillian Anderson.
And Dara in the comic Irish thriller Jump opposite Charlene McKenna and Nichola Burley. She continued her role as Rose Stagg in all three series of The Fall.
Also in 2013, Kane played the title role in Strindberg"s Mission Julie at the newly founded Reading Republican
Other film work has included the horror film War Games: At the End of the Day directed by Cosimo Alema, which premiered in Rome July 2011. And Still Early, a short film directed by Ger Leonard, opposite Ben Peel (Hunger), which premiered at the Galway Film Festival. Kane is back on the British Broadcasting Corporation this year both in The Fall series 3 and also taking the lead alongside Jodie Comer and Richard Rankin in BBC3 drama Thirteen.
