Vilho Henrik Lampi was a Finnish painter. Vilho Lamme's artistic creation period was quite short. Fourteen years had three distinctly different periods of style. He was very adaptable and boldly taken inspiration.
Background
Vilho Henrik Lampi was born on July 19, 1898, in Oulu, from where he moved with his family to Liminka, Matinlauri farm, a decade later. As a young man, Vilho Lampi actively participated in "general discussions": he talked, played, and wrote politically, taking a stand. The hobby of visual art rose up quite late.
Education
At the age of 24, Vilho suddenly went to study at the Finnish Art Association's drawing school in Helsinki until 1925. There, his exceptional talent immediately attracted attention and she won several first prizes in the school competition.
Career
Pale's artistic career was quite short, as he committed suicide at age 37. He made his debut at the annual art exhibition of Finnish art during his studies in 1922 and made almost 550 works during his 14 years of creation. He decided to stay in Limin after studying, where he painted proudly and actively participated in his homework. A myth of the peculiar creature has evolved from a lonely artist, an enlightened artist, in an environment where he was not understood. He was especially influenced by Paavo Rintala's novel “God is a beauty” that was inspired by the artist's character Lampi. Many have also criticized the artist's memory, for Lampi was a well-deserved artist in his life.
Vilho Lampi was deeply attached to Lake and Limin, where he created almost all his production. He took the subject of his work from his everyday surroundings. While living in the farmhouse, he participated in farm work with others by painting his spare time and bright summer nights. The early period, which dated back to the years 1922 - 1925, was expressing the strong talent and the true painter's vision. This creation peak was followed by a pause of few years, when only a few small size watercolors were born.
The second stage, called heroic, dated back to 1929 - 1931. The paintings of that season were overwhelming personal compositions, in which the strongly highlighted opposites, perspectives and the dramatic nature of the themes create a defiant imagination. Those works have also seen the political influence of time.
In 1931, Vilho Lampi made a study trip to Paris and his artistic vision changed completely. The influential expressionism of the heroic period Munch and van Gogh changed into a classic and new direction. The work of this season was small. The topics were everyday life and children's paintings, and finally almost naively painted landscapes with a marvelous, melancholy mental corrosion.
In 1935 Vilho Lampi received a second place in the State Art Competition with Sam Vann. Next year's competition he decided to win, but the work was lost while the artist died at the age of 38. Lampi’s commemorial was held in the artist’s home and he was laid to rest in the landscape of the surrounding plains.
When the life of the painter Vilho Lamme in Liminka in 1936 ended in Oulu Merikoski, he and his art were forgotten and did not even mention art history. In liming, he was a well-known person, but his work was not appreciated. Subsequent works had to go down to the attics and warehouses, even the weeds and pieces of furniture, the plywood when they were.
Almost twenty years later, in 1953 - 1957, memorial shows arranged around Finland brought him back to consciousness and extensive re-evaluation brought him to the forefront of Finnish 1930s art. He also received international prestige. Nowadays, there are Lampi’s paintings in several private and public art collections.
