Career
He is currently playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. At the 2015 National Hockey League Entry Draft he was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the ninth overall pick. In the 2012-2013 season, Meier played in his native Switzerland at the Elite Junior.

Meier was selected 12th overall by the Halifax Mooseheads in the 2013 CHL Import Draft, and has played with the Mooseheads since the 2013-2014 QMJHL season. He was named captain of the Mooseheads for the 2015-2016 QMJHL season a few weeks before the start of the season.
Meier was selected ninth overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 National Hockey League Entry Draft. On 8 July 2015, the Sharks signed Meier to a three-year entry level contract.
On January 6th, 2016 Meier was traded to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in exchange for a first round pick in 2017, second round pick in 2017 and a fourth round pick in 2018.
