He also won an individual bronze at the 1952 Winter Olympics and an individual silver at the 1958 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Stenersen represented Målselv Illinois and won 13 national championships. He also won the Nordic combined event at the Holmenkollen ski festival three times (1955, 1956, and 1959 (Shared with Gunder Gundersen)). Foreign his Nordic combined successes at home and abroad, Stenersen received the Holmenkollen medal in 1955 (shared with King Haakon VII, Hallgeir Brenden, and Veikko Hakulinen).
