In the same year he joined the Nazi Party and the Société Anonyme. After his habilitation (in 1940) he became a lecturer in Leipzig. Following his research and teaching activities in Leipzig, he became a professor at the State University of Poznan (1942). From 1947 to 1951 he worked at the Max-Planck-Institute for Physics in Göttingen before becoming a professor at the University of Stuttgart.
The Förster radius is named after Theodor Förster.
