In 1981 he graduated from the Moscow State University Faculty of Journalism, he also was trained at the State Planning Committee economics courses.
He started his career in a local newspaper. From 1981 to 1991 he worked in the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting (Radio and Television of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics). In 1991-1992 Medvedev worked as a presenter Information Programs Studios of All-Union State Broadcasting Company Ostankino.
About one and a half years in the period 1995-1996 he was the press secretary of the Russian President Boris Yeltsin. Following the resignation from the post of press secretary Medvedev returns to television and became the first deputy general director of Organization for Rehabilitation through Training. In 2000, Medvedev took part in the elections to the State Duma from the Kaliningrad district number 84 as an independent candidate, but the results of voting placed him the second.
From 2003 to the present time Medvedev is the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
He is a member of the Russian Union of Journalists and the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.
