Ross Parmenter spent his entire career at the New York Times, starting as a general reporter in the 1930s and moving over to the music desk in 1940. There he wrote numerous reviews and penned the column "The World of Music" from 1940, and was appointed the paper's music news editor in 1955, a position he held until his retirement in 1964.
