Born in Chislehurst, Kent, he lived in Singapore for three years between the ages of 10 and 13, where he attended Tanglin Trust School.

He is primarily a right-arm fast bowler who also bats right-handed. After he and his family returned to England, he attended Millfield School, where he played for the school cricket team, as well as the Somerset under-14 and under-15 sides. Since 2011, he has played club cricket for Hartley Country Club in the Kent Cricket League.
After leaving Millfield in 2013, he attended Oxford Brookes University, leading to him playing for Oxford MCCU and the combined Master Control Console Universities XI in 2014.
That summer, he also played for the Kent County Cricket Club academy and 2nd XI, leading to a professional contract. In 2015, he was named as the captain of the Oxford MCCU side.
On 27 June 2015, he made an appearance as a substitute fielder for Kent against the touring Australians, taking two catches for the wickets of Shane Watson and Chris Rogers.
