Career
Born in Elgin, Scotland, and originally trained as a musician, Robert David MacDonald spent some years as a translator for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization before becoming assistant director at Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. MacDonald died of a heart attack, aged 74.
