Career
He entered parliament when he defeated the incumbent Labor candidate, John Saunderson, in the 1990 federal election. However, he died suddenly at his home on the morning of 24 April 2001, from a myocardial infarction. In his time in parliament, Nugent was known as a moderate in the Liberal Party, with a passion for human rights and the well-being of indigenous Australians.
