At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Gorman won a silver medal in the 800 m freestyle. At the 2009 World Aquatics Championships, Gorman stunned Olympic champion Larisa Ilchenko to win gold in the women"s 5 km. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Gorman won a bronze medal in the 800 m freestyle. At the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, Gorman won a gold medal in the women"s 1500 m freestyle and set a new Commonwealth record.
