Career
Afanasyev was the captain of Belarus U21 team and participated in all 3 of the Belarusians" games at the 2009 Union of European Football Associations European Under-21 Football Championship. He conceded a handball in the game against Italy U21, resulting in a penalty, which contributed to the 1:2 loss. He was signed by Football Club Amkar Permanent in February 2008.
On 13 November 2009, Afanasyev made his international debut for Belarus B team, playing the full 90 minutes in the 1:2 away loss to Saudi Arabia B team in a friendly match.
