Mundlapati Ramanadha Rao was an Indian nationalist, social worker and freedom fighter and one of the popular leaders from Andhra Pradesh.
Background
Mr. Rao was born in Muktyala, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh on 22 April in Brahmin community.He spent his childhood like any other child in an orthodox family.When he was young he was fascinated by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and dedicated his life to the service of the country.
Career
He entered the khadi movement and spent six months in Sabarmati Ashram with Gandhi at the age of 26. He worked for the Indian National Congress along with his coevals like Lal Bahadur Shastri (second Prime Minister of India), V.V. Giri (fourth President of India), Uma Shankar Dikshit (Governor of West Bengal and Karnataka). He worked for rural development after independence.
Positions Enjoyed
With the public support he was elected as Society President anonymously for three decades (from 1955 to 1986 around).

Politics
Mr. Rao was fascinated by the Gandhiji"s ideology of non-violence and he got involved in the struggle for Indian independence.
