She attended the Los Cerritos middle school Thousand Oaks, California, and graduated from Westlake High School in 2003.
She was first runner-up in 2007. When Johnson was 17, she read an advertisement in the Thousand Oaks Acorn for Mission California Teenager. Johnson, a Moorpark College student at the time, wanted to transfer to the University of Southern California and thought the scholarship would help pay her education.
Out of 304 contestants Johnson took first runner-up.
In 2007, Johnson graduated with honors from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. During her time at University of Southern California she focused on sports entertainment.
After college she went on to work as a financial assistant, and later as a production assistant for the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards. She was sponsored by International Trademark Association Gems and Diamonds, Agua Caliente and Tony Bowls.
