Detenyuk set a games record of 2:25.19 to claim the 200 m breaststroke title at the 2008 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships in Monterrey, Mexico. Detenyuk qualified for the women"s 200 m breaststroke, as Russia"s youngest swimmer (aged 15), at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing a FINA A-standard entry time of 2:26.15 from the Russian Championships in Moscow. She finished the race in seventh spot by 0.17 of a second behind Beard in 2:27.87.
Detenyuk missed the semifinals by a six tenth margin (060), as she shared a twentieth-place tie with Great Britain"s Kirsty Balfour in the preliminary heats.
