She is best known for directing Monster (2003). Patty has two sisters, Elaine Roth and Jessica Jenkins Murphy. Jessica worked with Patty on Monster.

In April 2015, it was revealed that Jenkins would direct Wonder Woman, the fourth movie in the District of Columbia Extended Universe for a 2017 release. Jenkins was hired after the original director, Michelle MacLaren, left the project due to creative differences.
