He played college baseball at Eastern Michigan University where he played for Coach Ron Oestrike. Sheridan was selected to the All Mid-American Conference team as a center fielder in 1979. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1979 baseball draft.
Sheridan hit 2 home runs for the Kansas City Royals in the 1985 American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
On June 16, 1989, he was traded by the Detroit Tigers to the San Francisco Giants for Tracy Jones.
