Career
Born in Collon, County Louth, Ireland on 21 May 1875, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Armagh on 19 June 1898. He was appointed the Bishop of the Diocese of Kilmore by Pope Pius XI on 6 August 1937. His episcopal consecration took place on 3 October 1937.
The principal consecrator was Cardinal Joseph MacRory, Archbishop of Armagh, and the principal co-consecrators were Patrick MacKenna Bishop of Clogher and Edward Mulhern, Bishop of Dromore.
Bishop Lyons died in office on 27 April 1949, aged 73.
