Education

Jones studied law in Savannah, Georgia, and gained admission to the state bar and became a practicing attorney.

Career

In 1790, he also served as a first lieutenant in the Georgia Militia. Jones died while still serving in that position in 1801 and was buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, District of Columbia Jones County, Georgia, was named in his honor.

Achievements

• Elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1796, Jones was reelected to that body through 1798, a year in which he also served on the state constitutional convention and won election as an at-large member to the United States House of Representatives.
