Powell was born in Cardiff, and at club level was captain for Cardiff Reconstruction Finance Corporation, playing at Wing, id est (that is) number 11 or 14, and playing representative level rugby league (RL) for Other Nationalities, and at club level for Rochdale Hornets.
Career
Wick Powell was born in Cardiff in 1892. During the First World War Wick Powell served with the 38th Division in France, returning to Cardiff after the end of hostilities and skippering Cardiff Reconstruction Finance Corporation in the 1919-1920 season. After breaking his shoulder against Australia"s Rugby League team, he returned from Rochdale in 1922 and captained Cardiff at bowls, while becoming the licensee of the Cardiff Cottage, Street Mary Street, Cardiff and then the City Arms Hotel on Quay Street, just opposite the Cardiff Arms Park.
Wick Powell died, aged 68, in Cyncoed.
