Daperis attended Mentone Grammar School in the suburbs of Melbourne for his secondary education before graduating and moving to New York to study at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

Daperis" recent film work has been compared with that of a "young Mel Gibson", whilst co-stars have likened him to Heath Ledger. He is the brother of actor and director Daniel Daperis. Daperis began acting at an early age appearing in the American Film Institute award-winning short film The Order, directed by Aden Young and in television series such as Carla Cametti Privatdozent , "Ocean Star, Holly"s Heroes, Stingers, Halifax f.p. and as "Little Joe Cartwright" in the United States series Ponderosa, the prequel to the hit television series Bonanza.
He also appeared in the Foxtel series Small Time Gangster alongside Gary Sweet but is best known for his leading role in Underbelly: Squizzy.
He lent his voice to the sheep ensemble in the animated Paramount movie Charlotte"s Web. Daperis" performances on stage include the Melbourne and Singapore seasons of Cameron Mackintosh"s Oliver!, in which he played the Artful Dodger and Image"s The Full Monty at Melbourne"s Art Centre.
He has received a Young Artist Award nomination. Film work includes the lead role in the Australian feature Playing Foreign Charlie, composed by Academy Award winner Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator and Whale Rider) for which he received critical praise and the Italian jockey Frankie Dettori in The Cup, based on the 2002 Melbourne Cup.
