He was himself known as knowledgeable already at a young age. In 1653 he was also made court chaplain by Queen Christina. After this he held various offices, for instance as bishop of Växjö from 1667, bishop of Skara 1673, and finally archbishop of Uppsala 1677.
He died suddenly in his sleep after returning from a visit to Stockholm.
Besides being knowledgeable, he was also known as a pious man who was serious about his duties.
