The follow-up to the most surprising ― and shocking ― critical smash of 2009! 2009’s Prison Pit, Book One was an unadulterated smash hit upon its release at the 2009 Comic-Con International, and the balls-to-the-wall series returns this summer with more action and mayhem like only Johnny Ryan can deliver―again starring CF, the shirtless outer space barbarian antihero who remains damned to the Prison Pit (a vast wasteland beneath the crust of a barren planet, populated by the worst of the worst, where violence is the only law and evil creatures roam free). In this second volume, CF tries to get revenge against the evil behemoth that took his arm, and then winds up playing an unwilling participant in an elaborate escape attempt from the Pit. Prison Pit blends Ryan’s fascination with WWE wrestling, grindhouse cinema, first person action video games, Gary Panter’s “Jimbo” comics, and Kentaro Miura’s “Berserk” Manga into a brutal and often hilarious showcase of violence like no other comic book ever created. 120 pages of black-and-white comics

This is the second collection of Johnny Ryan's weekly comic strip, Blecky Yuckerella, as seen in the pages of Vice magazine and elsewhere. Blecky is a four-panel gag strip in the tradition of Underworld, Maakies, and Nancy, but with much more generous portions of bodily fluids and toilet humor. Blecky Yuckerella is the ugliest girl in the second grade, and the only one with three-day stubble.

( Johnny Ryan’s mind-boggling prison planet/wrestling/mon...)
Johnny Ryan’s mind-boggling prison planet/wrestling/monster/horror mash-up is back! Prison Pit blends Angry Youth Comix creator Johnny Ryan’s fascination with WWE wrestling, grindhouse cinema, first person action video games, Gary Panter’s Jimbo comics, and Kentaro Miura’s “Berserk” manga into a brutal and often hilarious showcase of violence like no other comic book ever created. Even the lead character’s name, which is only one letter away from “Cannibal Duckface” (hint: “Cannibal” is correct) is unprintable. Prison Pit is so deranged and twisted that even the author’s plot description, while admirably reflecting the spirit of the book, has to be edited into a sea of asterisks in order to be bearable to normal human beings: “A mysterious new a**hole has descended into the Prison Pit. He’s looking for Cannibal F***face and he wants revenge. Revenge for what? Probably for some f***ed up evil s***. But before he can get his hands on the CanMan he’s got to battle his way through some pretty vicious motherf***ers. S***’s about to get real.” Well, yes, exactly. 120 pages of black-and-white comics

In the latest installment of the satirically gory and macho graphic novel series, our hero Cannibal F**kFace still isn’t dead, so the Prison Boss unleashes the Ho-Bros on him (possibly as a last resort); but first, C.F. must battle the only person who knows how to get out of the Prison Pit. A huge success in the alternative-comics field, with the first two volumes already in second printings, Prison Pit is Johnny (Angry Youth Comix) Ryan’s ongoing taboo-busting sci-fi-prison-planet-body-muta-tion-splatterfest epic extravaganza, beloved by everyone from the legendary Gary Panter (“GLOREGEFULL!”) to Booklist (“Not to be missed”). In the latest installment, our hero Cannibal F**kface still isn’t dead, so the Prison Boss plays what may be his last card: The Holocaust Brothers. But before CF battles the Ho-Bros he’s got to destroy his arch-enemy, the seemingly indestructible Slitt, who happens to be the only one who knows how to get the hell out of the Prison Pit. The author promises: “Every single testicle in the world will explode with rage when Prison Pit 5 is unleashed.” Black & white

Growing up in Boston, Ryan studied English Literature at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
He is best known for Angry Youth Comix, a comic book published by Fantagraphics, and for "Blecky Yuckerella", a comic strip which originated in the alternative newspaper the Portland Mercury and now appears on Ryan"s website. He is also known for Pig Goat Banana Cricket, a television show made jointly with Dave Cooper that Nickelodeon picked up. In a throwback to the days of underground comix, Ryan"s oeuvre is generally an attempt to be as shocking and politically incorrect as possible.
Ryan originally self-published Angry Youth Comix, producing eleven mini-comic issues from 1994 to 1998.
In 1998, he began showing his work to Peter Bagge, creator of Hate comics, who introduced the material to Eric Reynolds of Fantagraphics. In 2001, Fantagraphics began publishing volume 2 of the series.
Collaborating with Dave Cooper under the pen name "Hector Mumbly", Ryan"s comics appeared in nearly every issue of Nickelodeon Magazine. Cooper and Ryan also collaborated on a "Wonder Woman versus
Supergirl" story for the District of Columbia Comics anthology Bizarro.
Ryan collaborated with Peter Bagge in both Angry Youth Comix and Bagge"s Hate Annual, in addition to penciling and inking two stories for Bagge"s District of Columbia series Sweatshop. In 2006, Ryan guest-edited a special comics issue of Vice magazine, which included contributions from over thirty of Ryan"s comics contemporaries. Ryan"s illustrations have appeared in MAD, Los Angeles Weekly, National Geographic Kids, Hustler Magazine, The Stranger, and elsewhere.
Ryan has also done work for clients such as Nobleworks greetings cards, Rhino Records, and Fox television His comics have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese.
