He played as a right half. He played local football in the Nottinghamshire area before joining Lincoln City towards the end of the First World War. He again played all but two matches in the 1921-1922 season, one of which was in goal after Robert Bainbridge missed his train to the away game at Durham City.
At the end of the season he moved into the Midland League with Mansfield Town, and later played for Worksop Town and Mexborough.
