He was an All-Star in 1946. Signed by the Saint Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent in 1936, Hopp made his Major League Baseball debut with the Cardinals on September 18, 1939, playing for six teams in all before appearing in his final game on September 27, 1952. He died, aged 86, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
