He played college football at University of California, Los Los Angeles Sciarra was an All-American quarterback at University of California, Los Los Angeles He starred in the 1976 Rose Bowl in which University of California, Los Angeles upset favored Ohio State University, which was unbeaten ranked number one in the nation, by a score of 23–10. Sciarra was named Most Valuable Player in the game.

British Columbia Lions After Sciarra was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft and chose not to sign with them, he signed a two-year contract with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League on May 26, 1976. Philadelphia Eagles The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Sciarra, and the Philadelphia Eagles traded an undisclosed draft pick to Tamp Bay in exchange for Sciarra in 1978.
He was re-signed to a two-year contract on June 15, 1981, and played with the Eagles until 1983.
