Career
Hamel was born in Asbestos, Quebec. He played for the Saint Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques, and Montreal Canadiens. Hamel retired from professional hockey in 1984, as a direct result of having sustained two serious eye injuries during games in that year — the first, during the "Good Friday massacre", and the second, during a pre-season match.
