Her 1986 film Anne Trister was entered into the 36th Berlin International Film Festival. Her mother"s family was Christian and Swiss. Her film was selected for official competition in the Venice Film Festival and her film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival.
In 2006 she was awarded the Prix Albert-Tessier.
In 2011, Pool completed the National Film Board of Canada documentary film, partly based on the 2006 book Pink Ribbons, Incorporated: Breast Cancer and the Politics of Philanthropy, which is premiering at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. Pool is a lesbian.
