Career
"Bibo" played for El Ahly (the African club of the century) between 1972–1988 and for the Egyptian National Team between 1974-1986 (scoring 27 goals). He made his debut in the second week of the 1972/73 season of the Egyptian League against Taiaran on 13 October 1972. Mahmoud El Khatib (the name speaks for itself), is one of the most skilled, if not the most skilled football player, who defined playgrounds throughout Egyptian and African history.
"Bibo" moved to El Ahly in 1972 and spent 16 years with the club before he retired in 1988 due to numerous injuries he"d suffered over the years, as with many skilled players, "Bibo" was often the target of defenses attention, and often fouled.
The problem became of such concern to El Ahly managerial staff that prior to one game another player was given Bibo"s number 10 jersey to wear. In 2007 "Bibo" was named the second best African Football player in the last 50 years by the Confederation of African Football.
