Career
Maki was a key player for Komazawa University in Tokyo along with current Nagoya Grampus player Masaki Fukai. After graduating from Komazama University in 2003, Maki joined JEF United Ichihara. He made his first professional appearance on 22 March 2003 against Tokyo Verdy 1969.
He scored his first professional goal on 2 August 2003 against Urawa Red Diamonds.
Foreign his first year at JEF, he was often used as a second-half substitute. However, in 2005 he became a starting forward for the team, and was also invited to play with the Japanese national football team for the Asian qualification tournament leading up to the 2006 World Cup.
In 2006 he was selected for Japan"s World Cup squad and started a match against Brazil. He scored 2 goals in the tournament, both against Vietnam.
