Mohamad bin Mohamad Khalid, better known in the Malaysian film industry today as Mamat Khalid, was born on 6 April 1963 in Ipoh, Perak.
He is the younger brother of cartoonist Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid, better known as Latin Before venturing into film-making, Mamat worked in a government office. He is an avid fan of rock music, which inspired him to write and direct his 2005 film, Rock.
As a young boy he used to go to the cinemas every other day to go and catch the latest movies, be it from Hollywood, Hindi or Malay.
He even banned Mamat from frequenting the cinemas on his deathbed when he died in 1973. However, that didn"t break young Mamat"s love and passion for films.
He knew it in his heart that making great movies is what he"s destined foreign After all, one of his heroes is the late legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
