Between 1992 and 2005 Kristal earned remarkable 143 caps, including 42 successive matches between 1995 and 1998. He also scored 9 goals.
He earned his first official cap as a substitute on 3 June 1992, when Estonia met Slovenia in a friendly match.
In 2001, Kristal became the youngest ever European to appear in 100 international matches. On 20 April 2005 he ended his international career with a substitution against Norway.
Kristal has been manager of Tammeka and assistant manager of Estonia national football team
