Career
From 2001-2007, he was a researcher at Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) (formerly International Trade Commission-irst), Trento, Italy. In the period 2005-2007, while preserving the work of FBK researcher, he worked as the same figure for the Centro di Ecologia Alpina of Trento (Italy). Since 2008, he works at the Edmund Mach Foundation (Finite element method) - San Michele all"Adige (Trento, Italy), as the coordinator of the geographic information system or geographical information science and Remote Sensing unit
His main interests are remote sensing for environmental risk assessment and Free Software geographic information system or geographical information science development, especially GRASS geographic information system or geographical information science (of which he is the coordinator since 1999).
He co-authored two books on the use of the free and open source software GRASS geographic information system or geographical information science and several scientific papers on geographic information system or geographical information science. In September 2006, he was honored with the Sol Katz award for Geospatial Free and Open Source Software (GFOSS) for his commitment to the GRASS project coordination. In 2010 he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Natural Sciences (Doctor of Natural Science) in Physical Geography.
