He is Regius Professor of Mathematics at the University of Warwick, having previously held a position at the Courant Institute of New York University. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 2014. Hairer"s nomination for the Royal Society reads: Under the name HairerSoft, he develops Macintosh software.
