Career

Born in Camagüey on 11 July 1948, he was ordained a priest on 25 January 1972. In the years after his ordination he worked as pastor in a parish in Ciego de Avila. In March 1997 he was named auxiliary bishop of Camagüey.

He received his sacred consecration as a bishop on 7 June 1997, and in February 2002 he was promoted to Archbishop of Camagüey.
