Born at Sevenoaks, Kent in 1922, Geoffrey Anson was educated at Harrow, where he played cricket, and at the University of Cambridge.

A right-handed batsman, he played ten first-class matches during the 1947 English cricket season for Cambridge University and Kent. He also represented the Nigeria national cricket team lieutenant was at Cambridge where he made his first-class debut, playing against Essex.
Good performances against Yorkshire and Middlesex, against whom he scored 106, his highest first-class score, led to him having his blue almost secure, but commitments with the Colonial Service meant that he missed the match against Oxford University.
Later in the year he played seven County Championship matches for his native Kent, his last first-class match coming against Somerset in August. In April 1949, he played a five-day match for Nigeria against Gold Coast in Lagos.
He returned to Kent to play for their second XI between 1957 and 1959 and died in Hastings in 1977.
