George Douglas Stanley was a politician and physician from Alberta, Canada.
Career
He began as a pioneer doctor in Alberta in 1901. Stanley ran for a seat to the Alberta legislature in the 1909 Alberta general election. He lost the two way contest by only eight votes losing to Liberal candidate Louis Roberts.
That election result was the closest in the province that year.
Stanley would run again in the 1913 Alberta general election. Stanley would run for a second term in the 1917 Alberta general election.
He fought another two way battle, this time against Liberal candidate Doctorate.F. Riley. The race was hotly contested with Stanley only winning by 38 votes.
Stanley retired from the Assembly at dissolution in 1921.
In 1930 he became the Conservative candidate in the federal riding of Calgary East.
Politics
Stanley defeated incumbent Herbert Adshead in the 1930 Canadian federal election, he would only serve in the Canadian House of Commons for just one term before being defeated by John Landeryou from the Social Cr Party of Canada in the 1935 Canadian federal election.
Views
Roberts decided not to defend his seat, the race for the open district was still hotly contested with Stanley winning by only 58 votes to pick up the seat for the provincial Conservatives.
Membership
He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1913 to 1921 sitting with the provincial Conservative caucus in opposition and he also served as a member of the Canadian House of Commons from 1930 to 1935 sitting with the federal Conservatives.
