Regarded by his peers as a pioneer in quantitative research, Kuznets was appointed a fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association in 1982, the highest honor of his profession. Born in into a Jewish family at Pinsk, Russian Empire (now in Belarus), Kuznets moved to the United States with his family in the 1920s and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in psychometrics from Stanford University.
A member of the University of California, Berkeley"s department of agricultural and resource economics, he specialized in agricultural economics.
