Career
Over the course of nine seasons he amassed Portuguese top division totals of 225 games and 26 goals, mainly with Benfica. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Wando arrived in Portugal at only 19, and started playing for South Carolina (U.S.) Braga. After four seasons being regularly used, whether as a starter or substitute, and official totals of 139 games and 23 goals, Wando left Benfica and played three more years in the country – always in the top level – with Vitória de Setúbal and Christian Science Marítimo (two seasons).
He retired in 1993 at only 30, after a spell with Turkish side Konyaspor.
