Kenny served as a critic and editor at the film magazine Premiere from 1996 until it ceased publication in 2007. Along with his duties at Master of Science in Nursing, Kenny contributes to various other publications and websites. He joined the staff of Premiere in June 1996 after having worked as a freelance film and music critic for several publications, including The Village Voice.
One of Kenny"s first assignments for the magazine was editing David Foster Wallace"s "David Lynch Keeps His Head," later included in Wallace"s essay collection A Supposedly Fun Thing I"ll Never Do Again.
Kenny writes two weekly columns for the film website The Auteurs, "Tuesday Morning Foreign Region Digital Video Disc Report" and "Topics/Questions/Exercises of the Week". Kenny had a role in Steven Soderbergh"s The Girlfriend Experience (2009).
