She studied for a Bachelor of Sports Science at Murdoch University starting in 2010.
She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in rowing. As of 2012, she lives in Perth, Western Australia. Vermeersch is 178 centimetres (70 in) tall and weighs 68 kilograms (150 lb).
Vermeersch is a rower, competing in the women"s coxless four and eight events.
She is coached by Bec Sattin and has a rowing scholarship from the Western Australian Institute of Sport. At the Junior World Championships in 2009, Vermeersch earned a gold medal in the women"s coxless four.
At the Junior World Championships in 2010, she earned a bronze medal in the women"s coxless four. Vermeersch made her senior Australian national team debut in 2012.
She finished 5th in the eight event at the 2012 World Cup 3 in Munich, Germany and placed 4th in the same event at the 2012 World Cup 2 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
She finished 2nd in the pair event at the 2012 Australian Championships in West Lakes, Australia. Vermeersch was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in rowing in the eights. Rowers in the eight boat have nicknamed their team the "Motley Crew".
She earned selection on the boat after a battle between ten women for eight spots.
Prior to going to London, she participated in a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport European Training Centre in Varese, Italy.
As a member of the eights crew in over a 2000 metres course, she helped set a time of 6 minutes 12.36 seconds, which qualified her and the rest of the team for the Olympics. With an Australian rowing team of forty-six rowers, she was one of the youngest members of the team
