She began her career with the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus, and was a regular broadcaster on the Welsh Home Service. She subsequently had a distinguished career as an opera singer. In 1978 she was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Watts died on 7 October 2009 at the age of 81.
Watts"s husband Michael Mitchell, a viola player, died in 2007.
