Igor Ternov graduated from Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University (Moscow State University) in 1951, where he spent his entire career.
Igor Ternov was one of the leading experts in the theory of synchrotron radiation. He developed a new field, the theory of quantum processes in strong external fields, emerging from exact solutions of relativistic wave equations. He was the chairman of Moscow State University Physical Society, the vice-rector of Moscow State University, the head of Quantum Theory and of Theoretical Physics departments of the Moscow State University Faculty of Physics.
Igor Ternov was a member of the Soviet Communist Party, a vice-rector and secretary of buroe of Communist Party of the Physics Department of the Moscow State University.
