Career
His work was characterized by:
Vivid descriptions of the relationships between man and nature in the harsh environment around his birthplace of Oppdal;
Effective and innovative use of the Oppdal dialect and nynorsk in his writing;
He worked as a teacher most of his life, though he was disabled by disease at an early age. His most famous work is I Dovre Sno (In the Snow of Dovre), an epic story of the Loe family in the Middle Ages. He was born in Oppdal, and died in Gausdal.
